VISUM VX111 Photography Exhibition & Leaving College.

May 19, 2018

Photography exhibition? More like a Lincoln college advertisement that the tutors have made you pay for. This exhibition didn't feel at all like it was the students leaving the college's final show it felt like a way of the photography department to get some recognition from the bigwigs. Which would have been fine if they'd contributed towards the cost?

The space we booked was only small, but the tutors insisted that they put in other students work, who didn't pay for the exhibition to be on display, so for a show that was supposed to be all about us year 3 leaving students, it ended up being a means to advertise the course. In my opinion, space was cramped and no way needed another 12 people's work being exhibited and I found myself leaving early as I was very uncomfortable and my mood was decreasing extremely quickly.

I feel like ''the final show'' was completely taken away from me and I don't feel like I was able to show my work as well as I could. All the photography exhibition's that I've been to and believe me, it's quite a number, never in my life have I felt so cooped up in a tiny space, how are you supposed to enjoy photographs only being able to stand a couple of feet away.

I am a firm believer in standing up for my beliefs and morals and I feel like the college, as a whole, I'm not going to name any names, in particular, made the last week of college extremely unbearable causing much unnecessary confusion and quite frankly, I am so glad I never have to set foot in that place again.

Turning it onto a more positive note, asides from the end of my experience being ruined, the whole time wasn't a complete bore and I wouldn't have gotten to where I am now without the support of the tutors, however, in this parting situation I feel like they well and truly ''mugged'' us off.

I've had some brilliant feedback from people who've been to see the exhibition and for that I am so grateful, however a part of me wishes I'd just used my share of the money to pay for said location, to pay for somewhere else and exhibit a lot more of my work, maybe then it would have felt more like a send-off.

I'm not saying that Lincoln College is a shit place, I'm just saying that in this case, I feel like they let us down.

I have not attended the exhibition at all after Thursday's launch and don't plan to attend it tomorrow either, not because of lack of pride of my work, but more the lack of pride in the college.

I'll just have my own send-off when I get my print home as I am very proud of my work to thank you very much and I just want to say thank you to the amazing family and friend (caitylis) that came to see my exhibition on Thursday to try and lift my spirits about the whole thing. You're all fab.

Here's to the future.
